Just another great day out on the mountain. The tracks laid down over the last few days are nice and solid and the snow is getting firmer above treeline. The big ice and rime deposits are still up there, but they are eroding from sun and wind. The next storm is coming and things should only get better. As it is, things are really great and I took some pictures of the ice above treeline. I plan on hiking it Saturday the 1st and that will be my 70th summit if make it. Today's trip put me over 290,000' for the year and 900,000' recorded on HAZ. I should make 1 million vertical feet on HAZ by June at the latest.

I went with a friend who has the MSR lightning ascents. We switched snowshoes on the way down so we could see how our pairs compare to each other. His are probably fine for going up, but not as good for descending as my Denali Evo Ascents are. So consider that if planning to buy an MSR snow shoe.

I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.
