Our group of six arrived at Lost Dutchman around 6:35am and started our hike at 6:45am. Beautiful day for a hike as everyone in the group quickly shedded their extra layers (jackets, hoodies, etc) before reaching the basin on our way up Siphon Draw. Would need those jackets later. We arrived at Flatiron where it is always windy and cold. Jackets back on. Why is it always windy and cold on Flatiron, but calm and warm on the peaks? Three in our group had to get back down the mountain for other Christmas Eve obligations. The other three of us (Ken, Chris and myself) continued on up to 5024. A little extra effort put us at the top of the peak in about 25 minutes from Flatiron. The usual great views into the Supes, Four Peaks, Saguaro and Canyon Lakes, and the entire valley were there for our enjoyment.

The Flatiron crowds were in full force on our way down. We had enjoyed solitude on the way up, due to our early start, but had to fight through the trail of ants making their way up as we headed back down. I made the most of it by wishing all of the latecomers a Merry Christmas.
