| | | After staring up at this rugged peak every week and hearing stories of what a great tough hike it is from the locals, I decided to scout out a possible route to the summit on my lunch break. I went east from the parking area, trudged up the north slope to a saddle just east of the peak, then contoured across loose rock on the steep south slope, just below the summit. Along the way, I found some pottery sherds and broken metates on a tiny flat high on the peak. Realizing I wouldn't have time to summit today, and needing to get back to work quickly, I decided to take the northwest ridge back as a shortcut. Crossing the steep southwestern face of the peak was a bit nerve wracking, as I kicked tiny footholds into a rotten and very slick rock slope just above a cliff. Nuts! How did I get myself into this mess? Thankfully it was soon over, and I was able to descend the northwest ridge without any issues. You beat me today mountain, but I'll be back. A fun and challenging little peak, for sure. | _____________________
