A beautiful day for this hike! This was my 3rd time, but a first for my son on his 14th birthday.

There was some kind of mountain biking race coming up the mountain, as we passed dozens of cyclists. They were all very polite, thanking us for stepping aside. One guy always has his dog run alongside him.

There are unfortunately several places where owners have not picked up their dog's business along the National Trail, so watch your step.

Hidden Valley is, as always, spectacular, with a little color mostly from brittlebush. Great views of downtown Phoenix and the East Valley (see photos). We squeezed through Fat man's pass ok. This is a must trail for anyone hiking South Mountain!
