met up with john this morning and made it to madera canyon in two hours
hit the old baldy trail around 9:00
a cool enough morning, partial shade, and a nice steady grade on a good trail made this hike up mt. wrightson seem relatively comfortable for the elevation gain
there were quite a few people out, as this seems like prime time for decent weather
can see why this is a favorite of the tucson crowd
spent about 20 minutes on the summit enjoying the views and having a snack
decided we would take the super trail back down
the upper portion goes around the eastern and southern side of the mountain through some burn areas and a lot of sticker bushes
both parts go through oak and pine trees on a more gradual descent
wonderful spots at josephine and baldy saddles
saw some bear scat on the trail :o
substantial wildflowers on both trails
bellows and sprung springs were running nicely
mileage and aeg from john's track
nice to experience another great hike that's been on my wish list
thanks for the hike, john

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
