Afternoon trip out to Gila Box with the first stop being down to Bonita Creek. When this creek is flowing good (not today) it's right up there as one of the prettiest creeks I've seen in AZ! Problem is that the canyon vegetation is so thick that it is very hard to hike far down/up this creek. I then drove back up to the watchable wildlife area and hiked the Cottonwood trail up to the Kearny overlook, back down to Serna cabin picnic area and then on down to the Gila river. A tip from a friend then took me along the river to one of the nicest little artifact rich Indian ruins I've ever seen! This site had it all and one of the few in the Gila valley that has not been spaded to death.
I was sure that I had taken my last monsoon lightning pics of the season 2 weeks ago, but as I was getting ready to leave, big storms moved in on the Box from all directions! I quickly drove up to the west entrance overlook and set up as the storms hit hard producing some massive strikes. I got a couple of good pics before the rain chased me away and left the Gila Box area with another great memory of this awesome place
