Since Angela wasn't able to make her first ascent of this peak awhile back due to inclement weather, we decided to give it a try. Jack, another first-timer, joined in on the fun on a perfect Sunday. My kind of hike: short and sweet with lots of up! It's one of my favorites, with the only downside being the plentiful areas of dirt and loose pebbles on the steep slopes. We hiked through some of the burn area in the lower portion, though it will surely bounce back in short order. It was quite breezy on our way up, but on top the wind was pretty much subdued, making for a delightful lunch stop. Angela treated Jack and I to some snacks and a beer, which we shared. We then carefully made our way down without incident and back at the cars Jack treated us to another beer and some homemade cookies. We originally planned on also stopping by the arboretum, but the day was getting away from us, so we just headed over to Los Hermanos for a post-hike meal (Angela treated us again
). Thus ended a real nice three days for me in the Phoenix area.
It was a pleasure to meet Jack and I'd say the three of us had a lot of fun on this one. One thing is for sure: this is one walk to the mailbox that will keep you in shape!
