With "Skippy" the Springer Spaniel puppy. Always wanted to know what the northern equivalent trail to Telegraph Pass was like - now I know...

Enter South Mountain via the Central Avenue gate house. Trail head can be found by taking the left road just after the Ranger Station/Washrooms. Follow the signs to the trail head.

Enjoyed the fact that the trail was shaded all the way up. Sun peaked over the ridge at 8:12am to start bathing the trail in sunlight. Saw a petroglyph spiral that seemed to mark the sun peaking over the ridge. Have been told that these particular rock art symbols were used to mark the solar cycle and I can see how.

Had a quick rest at the junction of Telegraph Pass. The return hike down the Kiwanis Trail had a constant view of down town Phoenix. Skippy and I flew back down the trail to the parking lot.
