Rode on the sand several miles, heading north, until we got to the pier. Then rode city streets back to where we're staying. My companion got so happy about his bike riding he neglected to look behind him to see if I was still there. I wasn't. I had a flat on the rear wheel on the way back. By the time he noticed I was missing I had the tube changed out and the wheel back on the bike. I had only a skinny road bike tube in my pack, however, but managed to make it work well enough to get back.
