Last year on December 24 I took my girlfriends son Chris up to Flatiron and Peak 5024. This year we decided to complete the set by hiking up to 5057 from Carney. Although I've climbed the Carney route on my way to Robbers Roost, I've never completed the 5057 peak route.

We started our hike at 7:10am. The most challenging part of this hike takes place during the first two climbs up to the false saddle and then the second real saddle. From there the hike really flattens out. The entire trail was about as well-cairned as anyone could ask for.

We arrived at the peak, 3 hours after we started (10:10am). We found the geocache, signed our names in the peak log and enjoyed a snack and some photo ops. After a 40 minute break we started our way down.

Our return trip was mostly uneventful except for my one step on ice. I have never fallen so fast. I don't even remember the fall. One second I was walking, the next I was 5 feet down the slope to my left. It was like a safe slide into second base. Luckily, no pain or injuries. I dusted myself off and we continued along.

The downclimb from peak to trailhead took us 2 hours and 20 minutes. 1:10pm and we were back at the car. We couldn't ask for better hike conditions this day. The temp was perfect, the sun shining and the wind calm. Look forward to trying this one again.

This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.
