Hiked to the mouth of Romero Canyon, spent the night at a perfect camp site about 0.5 miles in, and then bushwhacked all the way up to the pools. Only about 1.5 miles from the mouth to the pools but it took us 6 hours! There is no trail in lower Romero, and getting through involves quite a bit of scrambling, bushwhacking and bouldering. Not recommended for everyone...but worth it to me for the solitude (did not see another person until the pools!) and all of the small waterfalls and large pools along the way.
