I decided last minute to do another trail out of the 60 hikes book. You need a Tonto Pass for this one.I got mine at the Shell station on Scottsdale and Cave Creek. There is not a seperate fee at the lake. The Tonto Pass is all you need.I took the longer route out and back.If you want to knock about a mile off each way there is a shortcut. If you park at the last restroom and look towards the lake you will see a trail sign. The trail seems in pretty good shape to me.Although faint in a few spots there are a few carins and it seems to be better then in previous posts. You will come to a point where there are two trail markers. The one on the left has a fishing pole and fish on it.That's the shortcut to SB cove.I don't know the shape of the shortcut trail.Almost to the end of the trail the shortcut trail will merge back in from the left.It doesn't have a fish on it though. You take the trail to the right and finsh in about a half mile.Maybe I'll take the shortcut next time :D .I The lake seems to be pretty low.I thought this hike was ok.Nice views, lots of cacti,a few poppies, and great weather! :D
