Spent the first day of the month hiking with Sirena, it only felt right to spend the last, too... She and I have been talking about doing Elephant Head for some time, and it just wouldn't be right to do it without Bill!

It was a fantastic hike - a perfect day and a nice step outside of my comfort zone. 10 years ago I had such severe acrophobia that I was having clinical panic attacks on the Hunter Trail before you even hit the scary stuff on Picacho Peak. For me, getting to the top of the Elephant without ever having serious vertigo or problems is HUGE. I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few spots where I was a bit scared, and I really owe a lot to Bill and Sirena for being patient and encouraging.

And, I must thank my rump for being a primo 1st class hiking partner.

Elephant Head is an awesome hike with spectacular views and amazingly beautiful rock. I'll be back - no doubt in my mind!

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
