What a great hike. It didn't seem that steep going up, but coming down it did. I was thinking that I was taking my time, but I ended up going pretty fast. While the Window itself isn't overly spectacular, it does make a convenient destination, and the hike is just fantastic. The high was on the cool side, but the temps were really nice for the hike, and only in the shade on top did it feel cold. In the canyon, it was perfect. Wildflowers were nice, and at their peak in the lower oak-upper desert zone. It has been a dry winter, but not like last year, and there is some green grass. Otherwise, it is still very early spring on the ridge and most things look like winter. No growth in the oaks or any thing else, really. On the way back to my lodging, I stopped at Fort Lowell Park to enjoy the grass with my bare feet and to enjoy the view of the mountains. I noticed the exotic live oaks planted in the parking area at the SW corner of the park are growing.

One thing that really surprised me, was how empty the trail was. It was practically deserted, with the only real hikers along the first stretches. For a Saturday, this seemed odd. I attributed it to the cool weather, but it was great for me!

I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.
