The rain let up and the wind died down during our 4x4 trip so we figured we'd get in some hiking. We set off up Log Corral Canyon zig-zagging constantly across the now-running wash with just a slight drizzle. But within a mile of hiking the rain and wind picked up again, so already soaked up to our thighs it was time to head back. With the higher wind the temperature dropped quickly and the rain soon became sleet so we didn't get back to the car any too soon.
Although we only hiked a few miles, it confirmed my hopes that with some very careful tire placement and maybe a few scrapes we could get through a few rock-crawling boulder-strewn areas with the Samurai. So I will be back later this week to drive in farther then hike to the summits of 3 or 4 named peaks in the area.
