Jason and I left our campsite off Peralta Road, parked my truck at the Lost Goldmine trailhead, then shuttled over to the west end of the Superstitions. A steady stream of hikers were coming down Siphon Draw as we were going up. Once atop the Flatiron we headed east to enjoy lunch at our old high school campsite among the pinyons. We crossed paths with a few groups heading west as we began our eastward journey along the ridgeline.
This was mine and Jason's first hike on the Ridgeline. With a well beaten path and a gps track to follow we had no route finding issues and settled into a good pace. The route and the views were amazing, everything I could have hoped for.
The ascent of peak 5057' was the highpoint of the hike for me, with plenty of big canyon views, cliffs, and a fun little wall to climb. We made the climb to the summit of 5057' where we were greeted with an unforgettable view. We stayed atop for quite some time.
The day began to grow late so we continued on, making the long descent into West Boulder Canyon. The sun had set and a bright moon had risen as we descended Carney Spring Canyon. An unseen owl hooted greetings from across the canyon. We rolled across the chilly, moonlit cholla slopes of the Lost Goldmine Trail, arriving at my truck around 8:30 pm. Jason and I sat down in the dirt to enjoy a much anticipated beer and a Gatorade. Gold Canyon Jack In The Box was a welcome stop on the way to retrieve Jason's truck. We soon went our separate ways, high on mountain adventure and dreading work the next morning.
The Ridgeline was an epic hike and joins the short list of my most favorite hikes. Thanks for suggesting this one Jason and making it an unforgettably fun day!
