A water line break at Phantom Ranch changed my plans to complete a Rim to Rim to Rim, so instead, Bob and I hiked down Hermit, West across Tonto, and up Bright Angel. After a COLD night of camping (18 degrees for the low) at Mather, it was nice to get moving and we began the hike at 6:30am from Hermit's Rest. Besides Bright Angel, this was all new territory for me, and we thoroughly enjoyed the remoteness and lack of crowds on Hermit and Tonto.
