Even with our Rockinstraw Mountain and Horseshoe Bend hikes as well as exploring on and off-road along FR223 we still had time on our hands. Since Apache Peaks are already on my list of things to do in this area we headed east on Forest Road 220 toward Apache Peaks. As we climbed on the steep, narrow and winding road, climbing up over 5,000' it cooled off nicely. There were many short off-shoots from the road which may just be from hunters, but we checked out as many as we had time for. Eventually we got to the absolute end of what used to be an old mining road. We took a few minutes to check out an old mine, only taking photos from the entrance before heading home. We were treated to some cool views on the way out.
