Having hiked only the bottom portion of trails 547 and 548 in the past, I decided to explore them in their entirety on a humid, overcast 4th Of July. I started at the upper trailhead of the Bug Hollow Trail #548 and followed it down to Forest Road 338 in Mescal Gulch. Turning left, I then took Mescal Trail #547 up, and continued back to Highway 89A on the Upper Mescal Trail #550. After that it was a short 0.3 mile walk along the highway back to my truck. Had a fun afternoon and a nice "figure 8" loop on old Mingus.
