I met a group of about 15 hikers at Dead Horse Ranch Park in Cottonwood. We parked near the horse riding arena area, near the bathrooms, which were nice! We started the hike on Lime Kiln. The hike reminded me of Sedona, the rocks were a red hue color. We went on a gradual uphill, then the trail flattened out. After about 1.87 miles, you turn right, onto Thumper Trail. This trail was a gradual uphill, with about 3 tougher hills to climb. It wasn't that hard, just the fact that it was hot. You are very exposed on the trail, no shade. After the 3rd hill climb, with switchbacks, you come across Raptor Trail, turn left. This trail is 2.9 miles, all downhill. When you get towards the end, make sure to take a sharp left, up a little hill, instead of going right. You will see an old cabin. The views are amazing of Jerome and Cottonwood were both in sight! At the end, you will have to take the road through the campground back to the parking lot. This was a nice short getaway, but it would be best to do the hike in the cooler months.
