I brot my cousin out with me and we started with a picnic looking south across the creek.

It was a great day for the loop walk starting with the tall trees of Australia and going along the creek trail lined with pomegranate hedges. The fall color was indeed as spectacular as the former curator had told me and as I had seen in pics. The ornamental Chinese pistachio and ash trees were truly spectacular.

We wound our way around Ayer Lake where even there, the fall colors were mirrored in water. We then went through the cactus area on the north side of the Arboretum. We were fortunate to watch some birds feasting on the purple fruit of the prickly pear.
We finished in the Demonstration garden area with a view of the beautiful ash trees and once again, were among the last to leave. It was a perfectly beautiful day to absorb all of the fall color of the Arboretum.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
