At Chilcoot, Ca off Hwy 70 is one of the last obstacles offered by the Sierra and was handled with a 6,000 ft tunnel which brings the Union Pacific railroad out to the desert near Hallelujah Junction. I hiked the length of the tunnel in both directions over the top looking for any physical evidence of human activity. Found a few railroad spikes.
