Stayed at El Tovar with friends from out of state - walked around the rim trail at sunrise. I've been at South Rim overlook points at sunrise several times, but never with all the smoke wafting through the canyon.

This doesn't pertain to a hike, but I can't resist mentioning that the night before I saw a ringtail in the DINING ROOM at El Tovar up in the rafters. He (or she) was scooting around with his tail in the air and would peer over the edge every few feet. I wish I had my camera!!!
