This morning we were back in the McDowell mountains trekking the Lost Dog. We hiked out to the Taliesin Overlook, then came back via the Old Jeep and Ringtail trails. It made for a nice loop.

The Lost Dog section of the trail was very easy hiking in, out and around the wash. Very little cardio effort required. Once we hit the Old Jeep Trail, thankfully, it was a little bit more challenging. Just a bit however.

We when hike I like to make sure that I get at least 1 hour with my heart beating between 122 and 140. This trail only offered me 52 minutes of that in a reasonable walking speed.

Certainly, one might say, that I could just pick up the pace, but then my joints start to give me a LOT of grief. Therefore, we tend to prefer trails that have more elevation challenge than this one.

This is certainly a nice trail for a beginner or perhaps to bring your out of town guests to. It offers some nice views without too much effort.
