I took my mom and cousin out to BT around 3 pm to check out the Iris and they were blooming beautfifully. So many different colors, sizes and shapes. The Demonstration Garden has lots of new things blooming and there were lots of finches and hummingbirds flying around.

We also went to see the Puya berteroniana which doesn't bloom very often. The species Puya raimondii is notable as the largest species of bromeliad known. This specimen has been in the BT collection for more than 35 years and surprised them when it first bloomed in April of 2001. Their plant measures 5-by-8 feet. It is topped with 3 seven-foot tall flower stalks that have 16 heads of clumps of dense rosettes of bright blue-green flowers. The bees were buzzing around and polinating it.

We stopped at the inside cactus garden as there were some great blooms on those unusual and foreign cacti. I just wish they could keep the gardens open until 6 while it's nice.
