I went to both overlook points, so I added 2 miles to my distance.

This is another great trail in the Sedona area. In my opinion its probably the best, especially since I don't actually have to drive through Sedona to get to it.
Most of the mesa/mountain doesn't look that bad following the Brinns Fire, in fact the area below the first bench looks improved. The main exception is the areas that had dense ponderosa pine. With the high intensity fire and the trees all killed it seems unlikely these areas will ever return to pine. Instead the gambel oaks which were previously dominated by the ponderosa now have free range to coppice, reproduce and take over the former pine forest. There is a lot of erosion in the moon-scaped pine forests, and the tank which is about 3/4 the way to the northern overlook is almost completely filled with sediment. If you hike when I did, and you come down later in the afternoon or early evening you should be able to see the Scott's Oriole in the chaparral around the base of the mesa.
Still a great hike, and one which I think I will do again this summer, even if its really hot at the bottom.

I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.
