Hiked to the top, and then over to the fire lookout. I had to park about 300 yards down the road from Bootlegger Campground in a turnout. Met some nice ladies from St. Louis, saw a group of 3 men coming down from the top w/ 1 bottle and 3 sunburns between them, and a guy meditating on a rock while his girlfriend took a nap. The switchback portion was pretty warm both going up and coming down. The hike from the top of the AB Trail to the fire lookout is well worth it. The riparian area around Oak Creek is beautiful, the chaparral above it is also cool, and the forest on top is a great example of ponderosa pine parkland-forest. There was no one at the fire lookout, but it appears to be active. This would have been a perfect trip had I not gotten stuck in a traffic jam at the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon. Looks like Sedona is in full-swing. I would have driven all the way to the top, and then over to I-17 had I known it would be such a mess. The next time I venture near here I know to avoid Sedona like the plague.
