At 7:30 this AM, I met Sun Ray and his wife at the trailhead at the top of the hill along with their two dogs, Kona and Java (one was a puppy) for a quick trip to the Falls. It was a bit buggy but Sun Ray had some mosquito lotion so that worked really well!

It was a great hike as usual. There was that little trickle waterfall on the north side of the wash after the trail straightens out past the car. The puppy decided it was time to dig in nose first to the pool (see photos) that was created by the itsy bitsy falls. So if you're walking by and wondering about the big hole, it was the puppy (can't remember which one was Java and which one was Kona).

As you drop down on to the creek bed and head north and west, near as we could tell, there wasn't any water flowing in the creek until just below that big barren tree as you hear the falls. I was worried that the bees might be a problem around the falls but it wasn't an issue, even though you could hear them a little.

Of course the falls aren't as prolific as a couple months ago but it's more than you would think. (I provided 3 side by side photos from Jan, Mar and Jun). It will be interesting to see what the falls are like in the fall. I climbed to the top and took some pictures and found a beautiful butterfly. There were lots of butterflies on the trail and many different types... but too flighty to get any pictures except for the one in the photoset.

We saw 3 other hikers on the way back but that was really it. There were two horse trailers at the trailhead altho I never saw the riders. It was fun hiking with Sun Ray and family.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
