A spring trip this year that I also forgot to log in here. This area is near Clifton Morenci and is really a nice spot, popular with the locals, very close to the monster mine there. Eagle Creek goes into the Gila River near the box area. A road goes down by the remains of an old church then by the old power station there. Apparently the creek bottom is navigable by ATV's and 4wd's partially. However as I found out don't take your vehicle everywhere the quads go, or you'll end up spending 5 hours doing vehicle recovery, which ended with a Jeep with a winch, a quad and a sandrail using tow straps to keep the vehicle from rolling into a pool of water after I buried the front end in quicksand. Thank goodness the engine air intake was on the passenger side.
The journey was salvaged by a short hike after letting the vehicle dry out. The next day we proceeded down the other end of the canyon, found a slot canyon and an old trail to explore. I got to practice some stemming and chimneying. This area the canyon is narrow, the road rough, and the walls soaring. Very pretty. Some great camp spots. The old cemetary near the mine was interesting too, very ornate.
Upcanyon could have some nice backpacking, but some big pools to dodge or swim.
