Despite the grooming, the recent snows made the trails a bit fluffy and soft, and occasionally we "sunk" into the snow. But the weather was perfect, in the low 30s, with sun and thin clouds. We skied a 10k loop, beginning at the lodge and taking the Shultz Trail to the 2km Reese Trail. From there, we ascended the Bear Jaw trail at the junction of the Abineau Trail (no, these trail names have nothing to do with the hiking trails on the SF Peaks a few miles away). At the top of Bear Jaw, there's a short trail across a saddle of the Hochderffer Hills which opens up a fantastic view of the SF Peaks, and Agassiz in particular. From here, the route back was relatively easy going as we got to cruise down the 600 vertical feet we had climbed to start the day. The lower part of the Weatherford Trail (again, no relation...) was flat and got us back into good workout rhythm, before getting back to the lodge. I plan to do this again soon. Plenty of trails to ski, and a bunch of snowshoe trails as well. One ski trail is ok for dogs, and all the snowshoe trails are dog-friendly, which I always look for since my lab loves the snow.
