AN EPIC ADVENTURE! : ) Many firsts on this trip. First time to LCRG and Atomizer Falls, wanted to do this one for several years - SPECTACULAR! First time experience of a flash-flood in a canyon - POWERFUL! First time for an unscheduled overnight on a day hike (trapped away from base camp in this situation) - CHALLENGING! We did a 3-night/ 4-day trip into the Little Colorado River Gorge from Salt Trail Canyon TH. After several river crossings and being 5 miles upstream from our base camp (headed to Blue Spring), we got caught in a flash-flood on a day hike during our second day. Thankfully, we were together at that moment and near one of the only places that could "comfortably" hold us for the evening. We filtered settled river water and kept a fire going all night - little food. We decide to go down the next morning (tired and hungry) after the flow somewhat subsided, (letting go and going with the flow) making it back to base camp just before another wave ended up coming through that afternoon and night. Great group to experience this all with - grateful for the experience and the safety of everyone - planning a return trip soon. Thankful my flash-flood experience was in a larger gorge instead of one of the 100+ narrow slot canyons I have been through. An epic adventure indeed! Hope you enjoy the pics : )

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
