| | | We threw the book out on this one and did it our way. We went up the Y-bar trail to the saddle. The Y-bar trail is in much better condition than when I was there April 2008. The logs have been cut and the trail was open and fairly easy to follow. From the saddle near Mazatzal Peak we charged the peak. The frontal assault was halted by a cliff face which we skirted to the right and climbed up on. We hiked up the ridge and followed cairns for a while. Some route finding was needed but not too bad. We gained the peak in 3 hours and enjoyed the views and relaxed for about 25 minutes then started down Suicide ridge toward the Barnhardt trail. We dropped into the wash just past the false summit (west of Suicide ridge)and made our way down. We were stooped by a waterfall but jumped over to the left side and easily made our way past. The dry wash lead to Barnhardt trail and we hiked down to the waterfall just off trail and took a short break. After resting we decided to trail run a little to make time and cruised back to the parking lot. The weather was perfect. It was cool on the top when the wind blew and there was a nice breeze most of the hike. No wildlife spotted (except frogs & lizards) but a great hike. | _____________________
