This is supposed to be a popular trail but both times I've been on it I've seen only one other person. While most of the trees were past peak, the sycamores are still lovely with their rust to orange burnished leaves. I like hiking on a trail crunching thru the leaf litter. The stream had more volume to it than a month ago. Some maples were still holding forth in spots and added a nice glow to the canyon, especially with the unusual coloration of the cliffs. Can you tell I like color?? This trail is perfect for meandering and taking photos. I stopped at a nice spring with a perfect rock bowl with clear water, a nice lunch place. While windy it was neat to be down in the canyon and watch the tree tops blow but receive only a light breeze. Driving to this trailhead is scenic too with the little communities of Paradise and Portal, then you can go over the Chiricahuas on FR42 and go out at Wilcox.
