Wow! Hiked out from Phantom Ranch to the first wash below Zoroaster Temple, despite my calves feeling like hunks of wood from the day before. Love how this trail switchbacks for half a mile, then you find yourself looking down at the roofs at Phantom. When the trail finally crests the shoulder, you get these wonderful, open views of the gorge and the River in every direction! Also a nice view of the South Kaibab Trail. The wash offered big curved shelves of weathered rock that looked like they would be nice to sun on in slightly warmer weather. It was a bit breezy in late November, so I did a bit of yoga, had my lunch, and headed back.
