My first hike in the White Tanks with Linda & Mary from arizonahikers.com and John of HAZ. This is Linda's training hike that she likes to do. It has nice changes of elevation and scenery to keep you interested.... in particular, the drainage and wash areas which looked like they could be a whole lot of fun to hike. From the Mesquite fork, we hiked west on the Willow, .9 south on the Ford and then east on to the Mesquite trails.
Now I suppose you are stunned at the pace we kept, for me anyway (which includes about a 15 min snack break)... This is the first time I've left home without it since 2001
....and no, it wasn't on purpose.... which means I also forgot Scout as it was in the same bag.
In spite of going through withdrawals, we had a nice enjoyable day. I liked the Mesquite Trail the best as I thot it offered the most scenery with nice rock formations and such. You could see all the way north to New River Mesa and to the Four Peaks, the Estrellas, South Mountains, Camelback Mtn, and the Phx Preserve. The trail itself is in very good shape. There were quite a few people out.
