Hiked to Wind Cave and back from the trailhead then went on the Pass Mountain Trail to the Cats Peaks Loop to the Cats Peaks Pass connector trail. Took a spur trail from the highest spot on the Cats Peaks Pass trail south to the top of Peak 1985. The spur trail to the top of Peak 1985 was a little difficult to follow, but was well worth it. Saw a few model airplanes that I guess were flying out of Superstition Air Park which is located at the northern end of Signal Butte Rd. Saw a herd of 8 mule deer on the western side of the Cats Peaks Loop on my way back to the Pass Mountain Trail. 1 buck and 7 does/almost-grown fawns.
This is a very cool area that has been on my list for a long time. Love the layer of tuff on Pass Mountain.
