Let me guess: Darwin Award? Not really... Fair warning... you might want to a cup of coffee (or cold beer) before you read this. When I worked at a gas station a guy shows up late Friday afternoon on a Memorial Day Weekend and needs his boat trailer wiring fixed (yup, he left it 'til the last minut...

Makes my blood curdle. Personally, I don't cry over spilt milk. I've only experienced curdled milk, not blood. However, on the numerous occasions I spilled blood I have yet to cry. While I may have uttered a cross word or two, looking back on it I can recall a number of times when I spilled blood m...

Love my Tevas, just don't trust them for hiking as in the past. Same here... on the first part. As for the second part... I've lost no trust, I just changed my hiking from ON-trail hikes to mostly OFF-trail. So... when I got tired of spikes in the feet I switched to low-cut boots. And when they did...

We've been using organic Sapindus Mukorossi "soap nuts" for over a year with great results in fighting odors. We make use of the 'recycling' side benefit by draining the wash water (both wash & rinse water) directly into the tree-wells of our orange trees.

Here's an interesting insight by an ex-USAF pilot into what the Air Force will be taking into account during the investigation of this incident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaKSDDaYfPE (Note at 6:53 into the video Juan shows a photo of himself wearing a G-suit it is from when he was a young pup ...

More than half the days in June were at or below normal, and 27 out of 30 were no more than 5 degrees above normal. That's a pleasant June in my book. While I agree June was quite pleasant, I'm either missing something or I must question your math... More than half the days in June were at or below...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

I've hiked through a number of recently-burned areas over the years and have found plenty of beauty in the aftermath... different, yes, but beauty nonetheless.

At least the TV weathermen/women seem to think so... all I heard last week was "Get ready, monsoon season begins June 15"
It can wait... I'm enjoying hiking in the low humidity.

No need for a Tonto pass to park there.
I can't remember if there is a sign prohibiting overnight parking but I personally wouldn't leave my vehicle there overnight.

Holingshead cave is real it’s awesome actually amazing ! Dang! I wish I'd seen this thread last week... on Wednesday we were within 250 feet of it on our descent from the summit of Hollingshead. Can you get there without 4WD? My 4Runner is 4WD with a 2" lift and it did fine, albeit with a pretty ro...

Unfortunately, all but one of the hikes we planned are in the area expected to be impacted by the planned burnouts.

@joebartels We rented a cabin in Strawberry next week so that is the last thing we wanted to hear. ](*,) After we bailed on the AZT 27 backpack due to smoke, we almost canceled the rental soon enough for a full refund. Instead we gambled some rain would help out, only for the FS to add more to the ...

Great video... the cub is definitely a Honnold!
I checked out the video description which stated they were endangered Mexican Black Bears.

Scanning the comments on the video, I couldn't help but laugh at this one:
"Mexican bears. Did you read that? They can climb walls."

In other words, don't be planning a hike on AZT #27 for a while... which we found out first-hand today. ](*,) Months ago Tracey had planned another 3-day backpack, hiking on AZT #27 from Forest Road 751 South, exiting by Pine. However, just north of Mt Ord the skies were smoke-filled from horizon-to...

@rcorfman I may be wrong, but based on my experience locating Reference Marks I've always used the number after METERS (in this case) as the direction in degrees, like so: U2086| CH5529 SUPERSTITION RM NE 1.760 METERS 04312 | = 43.12° (roughly Northeast) DU2086| CH5531 SUPERSTITION RM 3 6.053 METER...
