Re: South Rim Trail /Trailhead updates

Add 3.2 miles to the approach for large group permits. Virtually impossible to enforce; like all.

Re: Route Scout - Downloaded map issue

iOS 5.3.02 - No Offline Maps Displayed Issue Potentially resolved. Might roll out late next week after alpha testing this weekend, then to beta testers early next week. A temporary fix is live. Displays a blue line that reads "Offline Maps Patch Added" on the home screen for all iOS 5.3.02 users. -...

Re: Route Scout - Downloaded map issue

kill it
App switcher - swipe RS up

However, that only helps if the maps are initially viewable as previously mentioned.

Re: Route Scout - Downloaded map issue

Older tedious issue; Maps working off-line for the beginning of the hike then mysteriously disappear mid-hike. - Swiping RS closed and reopening works first try most of the time. No loss of recording. Obviously not optimal. There is a future fix in the works. andrewp iOS issue ; iOS 100% loaded, dir...

Re: Route Scout - Downloaded map issue

Debug in the lower right, immediately when experiencing would be helpful to resolve.

I've heard about it from several. Closing and reopening the app works for some but not all.

Re: Need Advice: Coming to Arizona

Shoshone looks impossible to beat it you do not want to go a quarter mile down a rim trail and prefer a dirt trail. I enjoyed arbitrary miles on https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=15770 from Bright Angel Trailhead then east but most here would rather die than admit they stepped foot on it. A fe...

Re: Need Advice: Coming to Arizona

@lancelyons1234 Midweek, you can probably get into the Bell Rock Trailhead. https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=8 is busy, but that's because it's pretty damn cool and not difficult. From the same trailhead, https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=274 is iconic but it's not for young kids and s...

Re: Brand new to HAZ as a member, Route Scout app question...

Dan, welcome to HAZ! Importing routes in RS auto-loads off-line topo-maps. The last imported route auto sets as the follow-route, which has a pin-to option to warn if off-track. The last 5 imported routes retain off-line maps. If going on multiple hikes, preload all and manually set the follow-route...

Re: Darn Tough

Oops, I am getting behind on my socklog journal. Darn tough keeping track. While one could triple-up for outdoor slippers, I've worn and used as intended. Four returns to date and the style occasionally changes. The past two batches were my favs. Thick, fluffy soft, and every use for nearly a year d...

Re: Drive time on FR143 from Hwy 87 to Lone Pine trailhead?

@herdbull
About an hour from the turnoff.
Thought the west was 15 min more + more miles, the trade-off is less nerve-wracking, but I couldn't find where I jotted that down.

Naturally, most here are interested in Piestewa. Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers , mainly before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. East wind around 10 mph. Wednesday Night: Showers, mainly after 11pm. Low around 55. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New...

Re: 2021 Hazolutions

Started 2020 meeting a few new-to-me HAZ members out of appreciation on Pam's New Years' hike. I'm not a social butterfly but enjoyed the group hike. Posted several needed HAZ Guides. Up for grabs, in my range, were trails near Dewey-Humboldt. Along with some Skyline Park hikes, all netted more posi...

I would not recommend either as introductory off-trail navigation and even less if solo. Aside from physical conditioning both have serious mental struggles. Bataan Death March up North Kaibab isn't screaming Cheops. Sorry, just looking out for your safety. You have some great triplogs, just been a ...

Tough getting out of Wide World of Maps without purchasing a necessity. However, looks like your nearest Tempe store does not carry topos.

I've never used greentrails, perhaps better?

Re: Cheops Pyramid 5206

Glad you weren't contemplating the pre-edit  Utah Flats is middle & below view in the edit or blends in. It's not really a concern. The eastern slope of Cheops in view is the common approach. Most hike low near the edge. It gets old and potentially one bad step from a bad day/life in a couple o...
