Re: Jawline Traverse

@air
I didn't join until 1996, so I don't really know. I knew a few of those hikers, but I no longer live in Tucson, so I don't see them much.

Re: Jawline Traverse

@jladderud
There was a pack of hikers back in the 90's doing stuff like that. They have mostly aged out or died. From SAHC, of course.

@chumley
This reminds me that there hasn't been a really good springtime wildflower display in years. Since autumn rain is a factor in this, we have some hope!

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

I'm over in Joshua Tree for 4 days. Last night I endured, while "sleeping" in my tent, what was said to be the biggest rainstorm in 30 years here. Highway 62 was closed, covered 20 feet deep in mud, with several cars stuck in it, including an ambulance. I haven't had to leave the private campground ...

Re: Tent pole repair

@Nighthiker
Tip I heard from an old-timer: Fold your tent poles starting in the middle. That way the stress on the bungee will be more evenly distributed.

Why would it not be allowed? All mountain bike trails in Arizona allow hiking.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

So glad I have the ability to snowbird. 36 degrees in Flagstaff this early morning. I moved away from there one week ago. Today I would have had to wear jeans, shoes, a beanie, gloves and a jacket to work, instead of shorts, sandals and a t-shirt. Perish the thought!

Going up toward LCR I assume you'd get into the Kaibab Limestone.

Re: US 89 to Page is closed....

@chumley In order to achieve longevity for a rebuilt highway through the Chinle Formation they will have to excavate it deep, like they did in Cameron, and fill it in under the roadbed with a non-clay material. The so-called "Navajo Rapids" will otherwise occur all over again. Those bumps have retu...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

I have to move The Beast (my motorhome) this weekend down to the river, hopefully before the rain hits. That's all they can talk about down in Bullhead City area right now, the impending rain. They haven't seen any for a while, I guess. In other news, my family members who dodged the big hurricane i...
