Re: Yosemite loop

I have two suggestions... Starting from Tuolumne Meadows make a loop through the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River. We did this as a shuttle back in 2016 and it's spectacular! You can wrap around passing through Ten Lakes. Lots to explore out there. Another option is to start from Mono Meadow off G...

I was there on Saturday, July 15th. We arrived at 8:30am and the lot was half full. I believe it opens at 8am. My advice is to get there before 9am otherwise expect to wait. The entrance fee is $10

@The_Eagle The weather looks fantastic on the rim! You and Joe should plan a loop hike and stop by Knoll Lake on your way back.

@tibber Come join us you can do this hike! It's a big climb to start but then the rest of the hike is cake!

Knoll Lake Backpacking (April 22-23)

Come out for a fun overnighter to Knoll Lake on Saturday, April 22nd. A group of us did this as a backpacking trip back in April 2011 and it was a lot of fun. HAZ is way overdue for another trip. The plan will be to meet at 7am at Walmart (northeast side of store) off Dobson & the 202. We’ll head up...

Sounds like they are going to put another tree up there even though it doesn't sound like they have permission.

Re: Camelback Christmas Tree

I saw footage on Fox 10 News on Monday that showed a group of 20ish people carrying the 10 ft tree up the Cholla Trail. It looked obnoxious and is clearly a safety hazard. Both trails are too narrow & rugged for this kind of activity and I applaud the park service for putting an end to this. While t...

Re: Commercial development/Tram into Grand Canyon

Kenton Grua, a professional river guide, was the first person to walk the entire length of the Grand Canyon, in 1977. He was inspired by Fletcher's book but set out to "do it right" by walking it from end to end, not just the section inside the park." Someone also suggested "the Emerald Mile" writt...

Re: Camping near Kendrick Peak Trail #22 Trailhead

I have a few things to add starting with the Kaibab map. It's doesn't include the camping designations like Coconino but it may be useful. I also included the link to the Coconino Map for reference. Good luck and post up a triplog after you get back. :) Kaibab National Forest Map - Williams District...

Re: Camping near Kendrick Peak Trail #22 Trailhead

Here is a link to the travel management plan for the northern half of Coconino National Forest. You can camp on roads highlighted in yellow. This map cuts off at the start of the Kaibab National Forest near Kendrick. You can download an App called Avenza & download this PDF for use in the field. It'...

The NPS finally issued the sentencing for Casey Nocket. She's been givin probation, community service & is banned from all Federal lands for two years. https://www.nps.gov/orgs/1563/nocket-sentenced-for-vandalism.htm The woman who defaced sites within several national parks in 2014 pleaded guilty to...

Re: Camping options between North Rim and Park boundary?

Another option is to camp in the North Rim Campground. They set aside a handful of sites for backpackers & bikers. I would feel comfortable showing up especially if hiking solo. The campground entrance is less than a mile from the North Kaibab trail so it's not too far out of the way. Plus you'll ha...

Re: Yosemite

@RickVincent It’s tough trying to figure out where to stay in Yosemite. Each location has it’s positives & negatives. Yosemite is a huge park & you can’t see it all in one trip. I recommend hiking relatively close to wherever you stay & spend one day making a long drive to a premier hike in another...

Re: 2-4 night backpacking loop in May

Take a look at the Wilderness of Rocks on Mount Lemmon. This is a sweet area that is close to Tucson at higher elevation. May will be a great time of year. There are a few different trailheads you can use to access this area and loop options are available. Or set up a base camp in Wilderness of Rock...
