Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

FWIW, though this may have escaped some here, it is possible to be BOTH sympathetic to first responders injured in the line of duty AND ALSO support fact-based policies that will actually help reduce danger and limit potential injury to these valued community servants in the future. As opposed to th...

We have no rationale for doing what we did but at least we're doing something! :lol:

@DixieFlyer
How many acre-feet is that?
If it all got collected in Lake Mead, how many feet would the lake level rise?

Re: Mindless chit chat

@DmN The high in Phoenix was 81°F today. This follows highs of 83°F the past two days. For the first time in recorded history (since 1896), Phoenix has had three consecutive days in July with highs in the low 80s I'm not sure what the definition of "low 80s" is. There are a couple of folks on here ...

@friendofThundergod
They better have saved the tower. Their published objectives were basically "we're going to protect the tower and otherwise let it burn freely"

Re: Mindless chit chat

I don't have a photographic memory of weather events over the years, but I can't recall even a winter storm that provided such widespread precipitation across the entire state over such a long duration. From the White Mtns to Flag, even Kingman, down through the valley, Tucson, southeast Arizona, an...

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

@nonot I don't see government providing a public service as an equivalent to government enacting restrictions on people's freedom. One is a pretty common government function while the other is viewed by some as "nanny state". The two are obviously linked and the degree of link varies by activity. I...

Re: Mindless chit chat

There are some impressive rain totals across the state. The Show Low area got pummeled with 4"-6" of rain. Much of the PHX east valley has seen significant rainfall, focused on south Scottsdale with 2"-3". Indian Bend Wash is running. As AndrewP mentioned, the Tucson metro has a lot of 2"-4" totals ...

Tonto and Prescott NFs are lifting restrictions Wed Jul 21. State Trust Land in Yavapai County had been under Stage 1 but typically matches surrounding forest restrictions. While currently not yet announced, if the Yavapai trust land restriction is also rescinded, all temporary fire restrictions wil...

Re: SR 88 - Apache Trail

The rainstorm that caused the landslide on Fish Creek Hill was unrelated to fire. There was a single monsoon storm that dropped 4+" of rain that caused the road damage. The Woodbury Fire did NOT affect any of the area that drains across Fish Creek Hill. There was no loss of vegetation, and it doesn'...

Re: 2021 Fire Restrictions

Effective tomorrow 7/16:
Tonto and Prescott have downgraded to Stage 1.
All other NFs in Arizona have rescinded all fire restrictions.

There are still numerous closure areas due to fire burn scars and/or flooding concerns. Check with the appropriate agency before heading out.
