It's certainly a fair point to question the honesty of the alleged rule-breaker, but my calculator tallies $14,535 at $95 per person. The $15,185 amount cited in the quote is not evenly divisible by 95. 🤷‍♂️

Re: 430+ Doing R2R Last Saturday

@Pivo which is sort of ironic, given how much lying federal officials do as a regular course of living their daily lives.

I gotta believe the Pinzgauer has not advanced to the more modern and delicious soy-based rat-attractive coatings. Maybe Colorado rats still enjoy the old-fashioned taste of petroleum to fuel their daily activities.

Here's the change in monsoon moisture. It's striking to see the sharp change in the San Juans.

Re: Mindless chit chat

Weather statistics are often compared to "normal" values (was this year warmer than "normal"?) and those values are based on the averages over the last 30-year period. That 30-year period resets every decade, and since 2021 starts a new decade, the new "normal" values calculated based on readings fr...

Re: Backpacking Trip in August - 2 night - not hot with water???

Be aware of the forecast before you head out. August is the height of the monsoon. Activity typically ebbs and flows through the season, but higher elevations can be areas of severe weather. A backpacker was killed by lightning on the Cabin Loop six years ago. Lower elevations near water may be susc...

Re: Mindless chit chat

The arbitrary temperature by which we seem to hang our hats is the big 100F. Of course it's arbitrary because if we chose to use another unit of measurement, 100F would be meaningless. But I digress. This "milestone" is in risk of being reached for the phirst time at the Sky Harbor paved hot lot on ...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@kyleGChiker I like your way of thinking. But as hikerdw mentioned, I wouldn't put the full-size spare on the list of requirements. It's as easily remedied as a new radio, and probably less expensive! But for those of us who keep vehicles for a while, it's a good time to mention that you should be ...

Re: Foxes content living in downtown Tempe!

While I believe that the well-known Tempe Murder Fox lost his race for city council last year, there's a much friendlier and cute one that makes regular appearances on my street (sometimes two of them 🥰). Today I found it napping in the tree in my front yard.

Re: Recent death & rescue in Death Valley NP

The photos of the vehicle and the couple were from before this incident and shared while the search was ongoing to help the public know what to look for. Though it is a bit ironic that on the press release posted by the sheriff at the time they were missing there was great concern for the dogs. Less...

So far I've only seen the Sport, which is just a rebadged Escape. The true Bronco looks like a fine vehicle to me. Can't wait to see one in person running a desert trail here.

Re: Waterfalls?

@pahiker Most waterfalls in Arizona are seasonal, and in dry years like this, nonexistent. Those that flow all year tend to be visited by all of our 7.3 million residents. https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=30 will cost you $30pp but I don't believe they close the cash register so it at least ...

Probably about the same as renting a skycrane for the 10 minute flight to a paved road.

@Barrett
I wouldn't count on any pools. Even if there's a little bit of bedrock, with only about 0.10" of rain in the forecast, I don't think there will be much surface water to draw from.
