Re: Supai Horse Abuse to be Prosecuted

I was just talking to someone this morning at work who was there this weekend and she said that it's obvious all the horses are still starving and overworked. She said one was literally eating dirt.

Re: Whoa, whoa is our plight!

Greater Phoenix is good at recycling waste water, but most of it is used for cooling the Palo Verde nuclear power plant I'm not sure if this true or not, but I tend to doubt this statement as well, knowing how much reclaimed water is used for golf courses and other irrigation. Water is a big concer...

Re: What's your least favorite?

Most of the trails around the Phoenix preserve, for a few reasons. First, the nearly constant sound of traffic. Second, seems like the bikers who ride there are more aggressive than other parks. Third, the geology seems kind of ugly, just very grey rock, little vegetation or soil. And some of the "t...

Re: Horseshoe Bend improvements

After visiting there once, it still astounds me that there haven't been more fatalities there with the hordes of people who are constantly there and how much room there is along the edges of the cliffs.

Re: Box Spring Trail #22

I just hiked Box Camp last May. I remember the junction, but I can't remember if there's a sign. It was pretty obvious and easy to spot. How the rest of it is I don't know since I only hiked the Box Camp.

Re: Best place to grab a post-hike craft beer

The BRI brews are very good. I took the family there for lunch on a Sunday 2 summers ago and we actually had to send some food back. I'll buy the beers if I see them somewhere, but our experience there for the food wasn't good. Just discovered Lochiel. Brews are quality, but not hoppy enough for my ...

That's a real band, though. Look them up on YouTube, they cover a bunch of other songs and it looks like they still tour.

Re: Route Scout - GPS Topo Mapper & Recorder

Is it possible under audio options to turn off audio for approaching way points? It really goes on for a while and then repeats everything on top of that. It would be nice to have the option to eliminate that.

Re: How do you say Ancha?

Changing it up a bit, but still related in terms of questioning pronunciations...

Appalachian. When I was in school back east, all our teachers told us it was pronounced app-ah-LAY-shun. Nowadays I always seem to hear app-a-LATCH-ee-yun. Anyone have any preferred pronunciation or opinion?

How to be a Thru Hiking Elitist Snob

this article refers mostly to thru hikers/backpackers, but more than a few items are applicable to dayhikers. Funny read.
