@LosDosSloFolks
Nice! Dief is a bit of a local legend in climbing circles too. I believe he even owned one of the early climbing gyms in the area, back when I used to go there in the early 2000's.

Re: The Most Deadly Animals In North America

It seems to me that most bee deaths are not hikers. They are landscapers or people just working around their homes and they disturb a hive. Not much chance of bears or mountain lions attacking under similar circumstances.

Re: Tent pole repair

Cord on my BA Copper Spur stretched out beyond usability from just sitting in the bag for a couple years! Shipped the poles back to BA and they restrung it for about $20 total. Or they would have just sent me the cord for DIY for $4.

Re: Famous Haiku Stairs to be destroyed

@rustyshackleford135 Well we weren't talking about Native Americans - but you guys are good at changing the subject ... so, no - I am still living on stolen Native land. At least I acknowledge it. And I can list three non-profits that benefit Natives which I donate to regularly ... plus the hundred...

You mean like the tyranny that "gave" the Hawaiian Islands to the US to use as our playground?

Re: Quicksand??

Hiking poles won't help, and it's not just shallow wet sand that your feet sink into. Real quicksand just looks like all the other wet sand you're walking on along the river ... except when you step on it you INSTANTLY sink - like plunging into a pool. Then the sand and water instantly solidify into...

Re: Quicksand??

I once got stuck in quicksand up to my thighs near the Badger Springs/Agua Fria confluence ... it's real! I was alone and it took me about 20 minutes to work my way out.

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings

@Canyonram Wow - so cool! I've never heard of that before ... would be fun to see. You may have something there ... they do see to mostly be crossing in one direction in the Spring, and back the other way later in Summer. So a little mini migration for breeding - I love it! The road doesn't really ...

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings

@Canyonram
It was crazy this year! And I'm sure it was at least 4-5 separate individuals because they were different sizes ... most often saw them just walking across the main park road - I always watched and made sure they made it safely across. 🙂

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings

I've seen five this year just in my park ... a record year for sure!
Edit: just went back and looked at my photos - I photographed two here in May ... I didn't photograph the rest, but the most recent one was just this month - so I would say May thru August in this area.

NEMO Bag, BA Pad

Sleeping bag - NEMO Disco 15 degree women's regular. Retail $300. Like new, used twice. Great bag - light, super lofty and warm. Just a bit too bulky when packed for my smaller ultralight pack, especially with a bear canister. $200 plus shipping, unless you want to pick it up. Sleeping pad - BIG AGN...
