Well there really is no tread from General Springs cabin east. I think most just follow FR300, but that's not the trail now is it? Following the blazes (diamond metal on trees) is not easy.
The trail parallels the road-- route finding problem solved.

Re: Did the "4/6/19 GPS rollover" affect your device?

hmmm... I went in and checked for updates. I have an old Etrex Venture HC. An update became available last month but I can't get it to successfully update-- I'm sure because its a dinosaur. I'm always amazed it still turns on. Back to the junk drawer it goes! There are no new updates available for m...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

@SAMBA CAC profits from oil drilling-- regardless of the great things their homepage says about themselves. I didn't vilify them. They're doing what most businesses do when allowed-- nothing especially evil there. Time will tell-- maybe protecting this other land will outweigh the damage of more dr...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

This type of legislation is theft and its embarrassing that people fall for it. The CAC buys some dirt cheap land anywhere they can find it and trades it to the American people for some extremely valuable land. Then Washington throws some completely unrelated shiny things into the legislation to mak...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

@chumley Compromise is great but unfortunately this is not that. The devil is in the details-- in section 1493: "(iii) identify not less than 500,000 acres of economically viable Federal land, being managed by any Federal land management agency, in or outside the State that can be made available to...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

This same bill hands over "at least" half a million acres of pristine Alaskan public land to the Chugach Alaska Corporation and also allows for more freedom in the route of a new oil pipeline.

There's your catch. This bill is not a win.

You'll be wading through ice cold waist deep crossings this weekend. Wait a couple weeks unless you enjoy that.

Re: Superstitions in a Winter Storm

I was getting so many naysayers in the facebook post, but few seemed to be speaking from practical experience of hiking in the Superstitions. That group has 23,000 members, many of whom have never actually set foot outdoors. That Facebook group is a prime example of how much bad information, ignora...

Re: Wilderness Group Size Limit

Then again, the premise of the Wilderness Act is to NOT manage the land. Incorrect. The Wilderness Act of 1964: A wilderness, in contrast with those areas where man and his works dominate the landscape, is hereby recognized as an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man...

Re: Wilderness Group Size Limit

@JVFurniss I appreciate you making that effort but interpreting legislation does not fall under the authority of a ranger. They can merely ensure and enforce compliance and I don't think anyone has accused the AMC of not being compliant. With that said, we will likely not agree but I think your org...
