Re: Favorite Approach Shoe?

I have not tried any Salewa's; doesn't mean I won't get to it in the future if I am still doing off trail. My only other experience lately is with another discontinued shoe Hoka One One ultra hi TOR, initially really liked it, good cushioning, wide toe box and I found very grippy. But with my orthot...

Re: Favorite Approach Shoe?

Can't help on the new list. I had some Raichles ( mammut) a long time ago and were bomber but very heavy and more of a mountaineering style boot. You could step on a cactus with them though and have no problems with penetration. The Asolo's I tried a long time ago and on a difficult Death Valley hik...

Re: Favorite Approach Shoe?

You can still buy camp 4's on ebay. some new shoes too depending on size. Don't know about the iterations of the shoe and don't really care. I've had a pair in the past and they were too low cut for me, I prefer mids in my hiking shoe/boots. For me off trail the best have been the Garmonts. I buy me...

Re: Any ideas / requests for scouting out canyon between copper & dupont near malicious gap [updated water for area q's]

Some of the obstacles in Park canyon can be walked around if you have a high tol for steep slippery slopes and brush, and a ton of rock hopping. There is a better route in and I've been into that area of upper Salome multiple times over the years. I have one small segment yet to complete; hopefully ...

Re: Trivia

Perhaps should be in Grand Canyon forum but I'll put it here---I knew of this guy years ago on another forum user name of "carpeybiggs" and an amazing still photographer. Here is a link to an old film he made. If you overlook the mellowdrama has some awesome shots. https://vimeo.com/danransom . Look...

Do not go to Gran Canaria to---

have S e x on the beach, per CNN-- "One couple having sex on the beach, he wrote, is one thing; but having hundreds converge on the same area every day damages the dunes as much as off-road driving does." Apparently this is a thing and the trash left is wrecking the beach along with the, uh, alterat...

Re: Obey your master!

@Jim_H Of course these morons are so focused on the agenda. For the EV darlings consider this-- one source I read 44% of the electricity generated in the US in 2020 came from steam turbines. The majority of the fuel source for these turbines --- equally coal and nuclear. Only 8% wind turbine. So ge...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@hikeaz Impressive, but these vehicles are getting too wide for certain mining roads. It makes them more stable but problematic. Could this get thru the "squeeze" in Anza Borrego--no. Original Hummer an off road beast but too friggin wide for some applications. Even my Jeep is a bit big for certain...

If you banned people posting pics on Instagram, facebook, twitter whatever back in the beginning there would likely not be quite such a sh**t show.

Re: Obey your master!

Yeeehaa--here we go. IM highly uninformed opinion ( watching too much Dr. Grande) Trump was/is a narcissistic sociopath---but so is Biden. So are most of our paid for politicians. That said I can see where one has to have a bit of ruthlessness to be in a high level of government, know some blackmail...

Re: What's Your Favorite Color

Sorry not a cartoon but wanted to post it somewhere. It's a political article but the writing I find is somewhat hysterical. It seems anyone can be a journalist nowadays. This was in a piece referencing Portland Oregon crime problem. "Between the violent insurrection that leftist protesters waged ag...
