Re: STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

I use a quilt and sleep right on the pad. I've never slid off. That's after I'd guess, close to 200 nights. I used to use a silnylon tent. The pad slid all over the tent's floor even after streaking silicon seam sealer on it so I know that sliding around is annoying. I'm sure the shelf liner weighs ...

Re: REI Mountain House Fail

@chumley Thanks for resurrecting my thread and the laugh. I gave up backpacking meals a long time ago. Too expensive and bulky for an extended outing. Maybe they'd be okay for a weekend. I'm not picky, now I just bring a Knorr's rice side and a tuna packet. Most of the time I don't even bring a sto...

Re: Royal Arch Route, AZ. Rappel and upclimb options.

@louie
Concerning rope length. I brought a 50' rope and we were going to double it for the rappel. 50' was a bit short for that so we just did a single rope rappel. I would use a 30' rope or a 60' rope now, depending.

Hart warns it’s important to never feed wildlife. Except birds. Birds are not actually wild and it's perfectly acceptable to install feeders for them because they're pretty . Also, birds aren't real . Whether birds are real or not, ensure your feeder doesn't spread disease https://www.seattletimes....

Companies? I thought it was just the CDT Coalition that provided the shuttles. Are you planning on caching water for them too as they are not stocking that either?

A bigger issue might be New Mexico's 10 day quarantine on entry.

Everybody knows Hawaii's complete border is at sea level. Who needs a map for that?

Re: Mask Mandate On Federal Lands?

I would think that national parks and forests are under congressional control, but I could be wrong on that. Is congress is capable of controlling anything, much less any federal lands? Their job isn't to control, just to enact laws, same as the house. It's the executive branch's job to do the cont...

Probably not a lot of vitamin D to be had between 8pm and 5am. Just saying.

@LosDosSloFolks
I saw all the smoke from it last evening winding up my MC ride. I was on Dove Valley Pkwy. I was wondering if Spur Cross was burning up, or even Cave Creek itself. I figured you'd post the scoop here.

Well, the obelisk is an actual border mark, are you proposing moving the border 25' north? There are many others along the border too, one I've seen by the northern terminus of the PCT.

Re: What's your jam?

The responses to my OP have really taken me pleasantly by surprise. I more or less was expecting a rant on, "The world's lightest, loudest, longest-lasting wearable Bluetooth speaker" and the follies of subjecting us to your pumpkin music. Cool. I will admit I don't listen to music hiking. While thr...

What's your jam?

What do you like to listen to when out hiking? Saw an ad for the noxgear 39g advertised as, "The world's lightest, loudest, longest-lasting wearable Bluetooth speaker." Currently offered for only $79.95.

Re: Motorized Electric Bikes On Trails

@sidhayes I really thing this is more about one's expectation than anything else. I rarely have any issues with cyclists on trail, yet others seem to have issues all the time. I see a lot of hikers that go out of their way to cause conflict with cyclists. Are you one of them? I have an extensive ba...

Re: Motorized Electric Bikes On Trails

Hike the Colorado Trail through a section that allows mountain bikes and you will never want to see another one on the trail, Apart from the weird bravado mountain bikers seem to come with, the trail becomes trash, picture walking foot over foot on a 6-8 inch deep five inch wide rut all day, I disa...
