Re: SAMBA's PSA Du jour

@azbackpackr
So am I to infer that when you're watching one of those countless count down to destruction movies, and the hero miraculously defuses the bomb which a second to spare, you'd prefer he/she does so with a day or two to spare? You prefer your movies a little more pablumesque?

Re: Why I Bag Peaks - NOT!!!!!

@Pivo
What part of "peak bagging" don't you understand? Friends - over rated! Hiking partners - ditto! The environment - more ditto! Significant others - way more ditto! Fun - what's that? NOTHING matters but achieving some arbitrary GOAL deemed significant by, most likely, unknown others.

Re: SAMBA's PSA Du jour

Fear not for the nine intrepid Colorado River boaters. When I said "replicate" I was talking solely about the boats. They were carbon copies of the originals, and the nine adventures' experiences in the rapids were death-defying. As for the rest of the adventure not so. They had to survive the rapid...

Re: SAMBA's PSA Du jour

@azbackpackr
Yo ABP, I'm not sure to what you refer. It's a 2-part PBS series originally filmed in 2014 of 9 adventurers attempting to replicate Powell's 1869 expedition through the Canyon in IDENTICAL wood row boats.

SAMBA's PSA Du jour

For you HAZers who think that all adventures begin and end with the Grand Canyon, then me thinks you need know (if you don't already) about the PBS series "Operation Grand Canyon with Dan Snow":

Re: The Kilimanjaro Escalade project?

On the list of the world's "must do/visit" locations, Kilimanjaro ain't on mine. That said, I've already pre-ordered my tickets on the first tram-ride to Choquequirao if/when it ever gets built. Begs the question, "Why on God's earth would someone hike for a couple of days UPHILL, when they can tram...

Re: The Barracks

At one time, Parunuweap, The Barracks, or whatever it's called, was at the top of my "Bucket List". I was actually a late scratch on a Tucson Backpackers Meetup adventure to Parunuweap a few years ago. I was always a little apprehensive about the exit route, and had spent some Google time trying to ...

Re: Valentine Peak, Santa Catalinas

You can join SAHC, Southern Arizona Hiking Club, http://www.sahcinfo.org/. My fading memory tells me SAHC annually bags (bagged?) VP on, wait for it!, Valentine's Day. As I remember there was one crumbly rock chute, think Browns Peak, that we SAHCers all approached with extreme caution. The chance o...

@CannondaleKid
Yo CK, I did as you recommended, and the update supposedly went well. I, being the "doubting Thomas" I am, though, would like to verify for myself the update was successful. Got any ideas how I can?

Re: Did the "4/6/19 GPS rollover" affect your device?

I have an Oregon 4??, which I rarely use, and I was aware of the potential problem, so I started my Oregon 4?? yesterday to see if my unit was affected by the reset problem. I checked a lot of screens, but not knowing the symptoms, I shut it down and told myself "c'est la vie". That said, if I can f...

Re: Looking for short scenic Supes route

@herdbull HikeArizona.com does a lot of "stuff" right. "User friendliness" ain't one of them. As was said about older versions of Linux, "it's expert friendly" (not so now). While it would be a stretch to say the same about HA's interface , it takes some "getting used to". Be patient. If you're a s...

Dacite Super Loop - A Gross Mislabel?

I'm a big advocate for "truth in labeling", and the Dacite Super Loop don't. In Mnot-soHO, a hike should do as the title implies. Neither the Official Route nor the ten Alternatives that are posted loop Dacite Mesa. Some go through the mesa, some go around, but none loop the mesa. What I envision is...

Re: Looking for short scenic Supes route

IMHO, trees are simply view killers. It's nothing a good wild fire or an Agent Orange strike can't cure, but barring those two gifts from God, I like my hikin' "desert style". The western portion of the Supes definitely qualifies.

Box Canyon/Martinez Canyon Wild Flower Viewing?

LaFong's (aka SAMBA) been THINKIN'. Have any HAZers been in the Box Canyon/Martinez Canyon area recently? I ask because I hiked there years ago in an El Nino year, and the wild flower display was the most spectacular I have ever seen, way better than RedRoxx44's "More Flowers" photo set posted today...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

@Tough_Boots Yo TB, as much as I'd like be on your side on this issue, my cursory research tells me the passage of this act is a win for the "Good Guys". Nary a nay vote was to be had in either the House or Senate by members of the "truth, justice, and American Way" party. Democrats voted UNANIMOUS...

Yo my HAZ peeps, I'm feeling a little sheepish about asking yooz guys about Cherry Creek Road? My question would have been more relevant had I posted it six or seven years ago when I was a lot younger and a lot fitter. I mistakenly looked at the CHR profile, and delusionly told myself that all i had...
