Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Although the fire is not out, this fire was called 100% contained today. The BAER soil burn severity map was issued last week but I bet most of the unburned area’s on that map have burned since. Looks like they saved the area south of W. Pinto Creek and east of Sawtooth Ridge to Miles Ranch and the ...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Look at the Matzatzal’s to see what the post fire recovery will look like. They looked similar to the Superstitions before the Willow fire. I’ve hiked with people who didn’t believe me that there was once a pine forest on top.

Re: Gila NF near Alma, NM / Mogollon mtns

Check the Gila NF website. Look under recreation and then hiking/backpacking, scroll to bottom of page. For the past few years that forest has been giving summaries of trail work that they have done. What a concept!

Re: Mount Graham (post Frye fire)

It would be hot in the warmer months but Grant- Goudy didn’t burn to bad. I like starting from the bottom behind the prison and backpacking to the Soldier Creek CG. There’s a creek in the CG so you don’t have to carry water, just beer.

Re: FS 287A to Miles Trailhead - Superstitions

Drove this on 3/3 and 3/4. TH is about 12.5 miles from US60. First 4-5 miles or so are paved leading to and around mine. The rest of the way is in great shape. Any vehicle with clearence will make it no problem. I’d say small passenger cars could make it, if driven carefully.

Re: Lime Creek 51 Ranch - Horseshoe

We had 3 different GPS readings on mileage, all between 8-9 miles. Its slow going so figure 6ish hours to get there. The first 2 times I went the creek was flowing the whole way. This time, only about the middle 3rd was flowing. We tried the narrows but didn’t get far, it was waist deep with more wa...

Re: Lime Creek 51 Ranch - Horseshoe

I’ve gone from the lake 3 times as a backpack. It’s about 8.5 miles, give or take. Its not physically hard to hike but a mental challenge, going can be slow. Don’t miss the bypass out of the creek about halfway, I flagged it with trail tape on New Years. You really don’t want to get into the narrows...

Re: Interstate 11

Give AZ some credit for vastly improving the stretch between Wickenburg and I-40. I used to drive that route in the 90's often and it was mostly a 2 lane divided highway. Lots of crosses along the road side back then and once I came across a motorcyclist who was in pieces along the road. ADOT still ...

Re: Gila Wilderness question(s)

On the Gila N.F. website they've done something unheard of here in AZ. They've posted what there trail crews have done over the last few years. They even include severity of burns along the trails in the Gila wilderness and Aldo Leopold.

Agave sticking treatment

Hey everyone. My girlfriend had a to close encounter with an agave this past weekend. The outside of her hand got jabbed and 36 hours later the injury is getting worse. I've had a couple of encounters over the years but after a few hours I was able to hike out the toxin. Any suggestions besides goin...

Re: Your workout hike?

How far do people drive to their workout hikes? 15 to 20 minutes? Less? Walk to it? What about more, like 30 minutes, 45, an hour, 1 hour and 15 minutes? In the cooler months about 10 minutes for me to get to Mining Camp. In the warmer months it takes me just a little over an hour to get to Six Sho...
