Thompson peak: CANCELLED

UPDATE: I won't be able to make this now, I'm going backpacking instead! Raincheck?! Rewarding myself for my triumphant yet temporary return to "civilization" I've decided to complete the "Phoenix Area Peaks" list on HAZ. Which will only take two summits it seems. Anyway, would anyone like to hike T...

Re: 5-6 days in the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon is not made of trails. And as my friends above stated don't assume too much. Tanner to LCR and back via Beamer is a fun trip but monotonous if you have to day hike Beamer both ways in one day. Don't do that if possible, there is so much beauty out there camp due south of the confluence ...

Re: Possible AZT thru-hike in Spring 2019

@amanda_in_wanderland My partner and I will be thru-hike the AZT starting early March or very late February. Hiking something this big with a stranger might be difficult as your hiking styles might be very different. I recommend hiking and backpacking with someone many times beforehand to see if th...

South Bass May 2-4?

Anyone out here planning on being at/leaving South Bass Trailhead May 2nd, 3rd or 4th? Jamie and I will have just finished our 3 week vacation and should be hiking out SB the 2nd or 3rd. We have reservations at ET on the 4th. We really don't want to hike the old boundary road back to the village...s...

Re: Water situation: Tonto from Grandview to South Kaibab

@chumley i am answering summons! yeah so we were hiking across Clear Creek and could see very clearly across to Lone Pine and it had definite water in it, this was February 13, 2018 and this was seen BEFORE it started pouring on us. we have had at least 3 itty bitty bouts of "snow" since then. Re: Grand Cell Service...yaaaay *sarcasm*

@chumley it is just about a mile from the 64. Natl Forest land. I think we rode right by it on our way to GC Fire Tower last July...that was when I first saw it. Now that I'm back in the Pink Jeeps I see it clearly from Moran drive and the New Hance Straightaway. Only thing I found online was from ...

Grand Cell Service...yaaaay *sarcasm*

How have we not discussed the HUGE cell tower out at near Grandview Fire tower? Did I miss this? I've been gone two summers and this hideous things has popped up. Today out on a training drive from Tusayan to Desert View Jamie realized his phone was on...at Grandview...and had 4G with 4 bars. I thin...

Re: Need ride from southern terminus to greyhound station

@SuperstitionGuy yeah, I once hitched from Pueblo Colorado back to Flagstaff and the rides in AZ were the kindest people! I'd assume northern AZ is "nicer" than southern overall but we are hitching after we hit the southern terminus. I'll let ya know how it goes... unless I'm dead in a ditch somewh...

@Widowmaker You have no idea my Friend....no idea.
The South rim in winter has it's moments...which is why I'm returning to Tusayan in mid-December.

Also, I mean it. Visit Hippy and you don't have to pay to get in the park. It's a thing
